This hike is a must if you love beautiful scenery and nature, passing through woodland to reach a vantage point giving the most wonderful views of the villages of the Debed valley and mountains beyond.
Taking approx 4 hours, it is steep in places but definitely worth the effort.

Walk in the footsteps of medieval monks

Dsevank (old Haghpat bridge) to Kayan Fortress

Walk between the Centuries

This hike shows the depth of history, beauty and uniqueness of the region.
Starting in Odzun at one of the oldest churches in the world and see the unique Victory monument. Your hike will take you past churches from the 5th to 13th Centuries, caves and the stunning plateau overlooking the Debed valley. Finish at the fortress monastery of Kobayr, which has some of the few remaining frescoes in Armenia. This is an unforgettable hike and you may not want to leave the region after this!

The Monastery to Monastery walk between the World Heritage Sites of Sanahin and Haghpat Monasteries is our most popular walk and follows the same historic route taken by the medieval monks and pilgrims. Passing through the rural village of Akner and crossing the old Haghpat Bridge, this is a delightful hike showing the beauty and scenery of the Lori region. Guided tours of the monasteries are also available to make this a day an unforgettable experience.
Duration: approx. 3 hours (one way)

If you don’t have much time, this is the hike for you. Starting at the foot of Haghpat near the old stone bridge we gradually ascend to Kayan fortress, built in medieval times to protect the two great monasteries. It is now in ruins but well worth the walk and gives wonderful views of the Debed Valley.
Duration: approx. 1 ¼ hours (return)  Degree of difficulty: easy – medium (near the top)

Paradise in the mountains

combine a hike with one of our guided tours

A new hike developed for the 2017 season and loved by the locals for its tranquillity, peace and magical surroundings. Starting from the centre of the village of Tsaghkashat in the mountains, you will wind your way through an ancient Armenian forest before reaching open fields with beautiful views of the Debed valley and finishing at the wonder of Haghpat monastery. If you have time, extend your walk with a diversion to a water source in the mountains from which you can refresh yourself with the natural waters of the spring. A guided tour of the monastery is also available to make a perfect day out.
Please note, you will require a taxi to reach the start of the hike

Sanahin Bridge (Alaverdi town) to Sanahin Monastery

Start in the town of Alaverdi at the medieval Sanahin Bridge (part of the UNESCO World Heritage site) and hike up to the top of the Sanahin plateau before reaching the majestic Sanahin Monastery. The route winds up the mountain so is a fairly gentle incline and gives fabulous views of the old bridge and Alaverdi Town.
Duration: approx. 1 ½ hour (one way)

Hike from the centre of Odzun to the village of Ardvi, a place of pilgrimage for its special waters, originating from the rocks and considered to be a cure for all ills. Walking through rural Armenia, see the natural beauty of the flower meadows and discover about real life in traditional villages. Our destination is the quaint village of Ardvi and hear about the legend of the snake in the rock and the magical properties of its water.
Duration: approx. 3 ½ hour (one way)

Hikes may start and finish from different locations; we will be happy to advise on and arrange local transport for you, but you will be expected to pay the cost of the transport.
