Terms and Conditions — Alaverdi Guides

Last updated: March 2025

Hi, I’m Arjun Mehta, the person behind Alaverdi Guides. What started as a collection of notes from my own travels across India has grown into something I never quite planned: a resource for people who aren’t just passing through, but who genuinely want to build a life here, whether that means renting a flat in Pune, understanding Bangalore’s neighborhoods, or navigating the legal maze of buying property as an NRI.

These Terms and Conditions explain the rules of the road for using this site. I’ve tried to keep them straightforward—no jargon, no endless paragraphs designed to confuse you. By accessing or using alaverdiguides.com, you agree to these terms. If something doesn’t sit right with you, please don’t use the site.

What This Site Is (And What It Isn’t)

Everything you read here comes from my own research, conversations with expat families, visits to neighborhoods, and hours spent decoding local processes that are rarely explained clearly anywhere else. I share guides on renting, buying, cost of living, visa nuances, and the everyday realities of settling in India.

But here’s the important part: I am not a lawyer, a financial advisor, or a real estate agent. Nothing on this site constitutes professional advice. Laws change, property regulations vary by state, and what worked for one person might not work for you. Always consult a qualified professional before making any financial or legal decisions. I share what I know, but your situation is yours alone.

Using the Site

You’re welcome to read, share, and benefit from the content here. A few common-sense boundaries:

  • Don’t copy large portions of the guides and republish them elsewhere without permission. I put real work into this, and that work deserves respect.
  • Don’t use the site for anything illegal or harmful. Seems obvious, but it needs saying.
  • If you comment or reach out, keep it constructive. I value genuine conversation, not noise.

Content Accuracy and Updates

I update guides regularly. When a rental market shifts in Goa or a new property law affects foreign buyers, I revisit the relevant pages and revise them. But I can’t guarantee that every detail is current the moment you read it. India moves fast, and local rules can change without much warning. If you spot something outdated, I’d genuinely appreciate a heads-up.

Some older posts reflect a different phase of this project—when I was writing more about travel routes and hidden temples than about lease agreements and property taxes. I’ve left much of that archive intact because people still find it useful, but the site’s emphasis has naturally shifted toward long-term living and real estate. I mention this so you understand the context of what you’re reading.

Third-Party Links and Resources

Throughout the guides, I link to services, platforms, and resources that I’ve found helpful—property portals, visa agencies, legal databases, expat forums. I don’t control those external sites, and I’m not responsible for their content or how they handle your data. Clicking those links is your choice, and I encourage you to read their own terms and privacy policies.

I don’t accept payment for links or recommendations. If I mention a service, it’s because I or someone I trust has used it. Occasionally, I may earn a small affiliate commission at no cost to you, but that never influences what I write or recommend.

Intellectual Property

All the writing, photographs, and guides on this site are my work unless otherwise credited. You’re welcome to quote short passages with proper attribution and a link back, but wholesale reproduction isn’t okay. If you’d like to use something more extensively—for a publication, a newsletter, or a research project—just ask. I’m usually open to it.

Limitation of Liability

I do my best to provide accurate, helpful information, but I can’t accept liability for how you use it. If you sign a lease based on a guide I wrote and the landlord turns out to be difficult, or if you invest in a neighborhood I profiled and the market dips, that’s a risk you took. Life is unpredictable, and so is real estate. Make decisions with your eyes open and with professional support where needed.

Changes to These Terms

I may update this page from time to time as the site evolves or as legal requirements change. When I do, I’ll revise the date at the top. If the changes are significant, I’ll add a note on the homepage or in the newsletter. Continuing to use the site after an update means you accept the revised terms.

Governing Law

This site is operated from India, and these terms are governed by Indian law. Any disputes fall under the jurisdiction of the courts in Mumbai.

Getting in Touch

If you have questions about these terms, or if you just want to share your own experience of settling in India, I’d love to hear from you. The whole point of this project is to build a real community of people who are navigating the same journey.
